What in your experience is the most accurate out of box revolver/auto handgun and caliber combination?

The most accurate handgun is the Hammerli 208, .22lr
Next is the Hammerli 208s, .22lr
Next is the Pardini SP, .22lr
Centerfire, (Not considering the other, smaller CF calibers from Pardini or other European companies)out of the box,
is the Pardini GT45, .45. .
Other .45s out of the box are custom bullseye guns from manufactorers such as Les Baer, Rock River and some Kimbers.
Bullseye guns are the most demanding guns for accuracy. They MUST shoot a less than 2" group at 50 yards.
There are a lot of .22's that can do that, but the ones mentioned are the most accurate.
I don't think any centerfire .45, out of the box can do that except the ones mentioned.
The guns mentioned are the only 'out the box' guns you will find on the line at the National Championships at Camp Perry for the NRA annual Bullseye Competition.
Most of the guns used, and the ones that win the National Championships are some of the mentioned guns or highly accurized other .45's and the Government issued 9mm Berretas that are only used by the military competitors.
Revolver: Colt Anaconda .44 Mag. 6"
Rimfire: S&W 41

AMT automag II
There are plenty more where those came from Don. For general target work there is the Beretta Model 92 9mm Match, the Swiss made Oerlikon (ther same people who make the 20mm cannons) .45ACP, and my faithful old S&W Model 52-2 in .38 Special...a great paper puncher!

Look to the the Steyr SPP ...
Or maybe the HK SP-89 ... (it has the edge with the laser!)
They'll get the job done!

Punchie makes a very good point, the P210 is without doubt the most accurate service handgun ever adopted by any military. Here is one of mine, a very early Model 49 built before SIG began to use their current firearms ID system using a series prefix number.

And there is a lot to be said for ah HK too!
Actually I'm not much good with a pistol, but I can hit usually hit some where around center of mass on a man sized target from 50 yards ... all these can out shoot me![:0]

I will agree 100% with that statement ,and dealers get p.o'd when you make that statement
Cheapest gun I own that that shoots accurate ,actually is the most accurate {at least I am with it} browning buck mark
Most expensive ,Wilson combat ,the sights are a bit crude ,but I am getting better ,my best group to date with it is 2.5 inches at 25 yrds off hand ,it was a fluke ,I can't get below 5 inches with any regularity ,the sights are close combat sights ,low profile ,I view them as a notch above j-frame sights ,but as I stated I am getting used to them

ok, so 50 yds...what is going to be hit? a torso? an animal body? a target bulleye? again, accurate is a fluid term. my pellet gun is accurate hitting squirrels at 50 feet. so, whats most accurate? if it hits squirrels, its accurate. and too, an x ring at 50yds is 2 1/2" in width. an x is an x. so a match 45 with a 2 1/2" group is all one needs to shoot 10x. a human torso is approx 18" wide. average conflict is under 5 yds. 18" at 5 yds just about anything will work. follow me? there is a point where overkill become a selling point and people go chasing accurate guns with no need in mind. if nobody believes me, just check all the sales in the gun world where accuracy DOESNT matter. hey...this is thread, lets talk about it!
If all I need to hit an X-ring at 50 yards was a match gun, I'd be one happy camper! I think this question really centers on two issues, while people have been seperately responding to both:
1. How accurate (ie reproduceable) is the gun itself? Of course which ammo you use is going to play a major role in this.
2. How accurate is the gun FOR YOU? The idea is that certain guns work better for certain people because of grip size, trigger weight, sight design, sight radius, etc. As one example, even though the L-frame Smith revolver with 8 inch bbl is much more accurate than the 2 inch .38 snubby, my kid sister is going to be a lot more accurate with the snubby, simply because the L-frame is too heavy for her to level for any period of time!
A gun might be able to deliver 1 inch groups out of a Ransom rest (#1), but if the trigger pull is heavy and mushy, or the sights are fixed or crappy, or the grip is too small, or too large, you might not be able to hit anything with it (#2). Competition style match guns are designed to maximize both #1 and #2, but you pay for the privilege!
I think most shooters (myself included) are not as "good" as their gun. . .which is to say that the "shootability" of the gun is just as important in being accurate than its intrinsic accuracy.
Put a little differently, but you could give me the most slick customized $2400 Les Baer .45 with custom-tuned match ammo, and I'm still going to be less accurate with it than a top-level bulleye shooter with a $400 Armscor .45 and mil-surp ammo.
For my favorites so far, I'll nod to the S&W 41, and the 686.

is the one you can point at your target and reliably hit and hit hard. Don't have to be pretty or shiny
Smith & Wesson 617...8 3/8 " bbl. I can shoot a one shot group at 100 yards that measures no more than .223. [:0]

" What in your experience is the most accurate out of box revolver/auto handgun and caliber combination?"
He did not ask what is accurate ENOUGH, he asked for the MOST accurate.
No one asked about hitting squirrels or torsos.
You will find the most accurate handguns on the line at Camp Perry during the National Championships. The top scores are shot with the guns I mentioned.
Centerfire - K38
Unfortunately I don't think S&W makes these anymore.
